Running a successful small business is like learning to surf.

You want to do it so badly but you need a lot of hard work, patience, balance, and focus.

It’s a struggle day after day, with cuts and scrapes all over your legs from the times you fell off your surfboard.

But one day, you finally get the hang of it and you’re flying, holding your own in the choppy waters of a gorgeous ocean, your face in the sun, and not a shark in sight.

How long does it take your business to get to that level?

Years ago, I was quickly growing an audience for my DIY home improvements and design projects and I wanted to keep giving them more.

I worked all hours of the day, planning my projects, filming and taking photos of each step of my work, writing out blog posts, and promoting my work.

But everything I did took an eternity to finish. I was always starting and stopping, then picking up where I Ieft, off with no clue what had to be done next. The whole process was frustrating and overwhelming at times.

Looking back now, I could see clearly why it was so hard.

I was doing it all myself, manually, without systems.

You wouldn’t believe how far I’ve come since those early days, after I discovered how to automate my work.

Over the last few years, I trained myself to work more efficiently, use free or inexpensive tools to automate tasks, and I am now ‘surfing’ on a daily basis.

Let me introduce you to the seven methods of automation that I use:

  1. Batching
  2. Shortcuts
  3. Templates
  4. Email Marketing
  5. File Organization
  6. Standard Operating Procedures
  7. Workflows

In this podcast, I’ll explain how each one works and why I love them.

They’re easy to learn and are mostly free. They require NO coding and cover multiple areas of your business.

Like all the good things worth waiting for, you will put in more work upfront to build your systems.

But each one helps you become more proactive, reduces the time you waste doing repetitive tasks, and gives you more downtime to dream and plan your next step!

And when you’re finally mastering those waves, you’ll look back to the shore and see how far you’ve come!
