It’s a balmy 17℉ outside as I stand in my cold bathroom, smoothing grout around my new shower tiles. It’s been a few weeks, and progress is good.
This is my second business, doing home renovation projects and documenting them for my followers on my DIY blog.
I love this job but it is demanding, and in the past, I couldn’t imagine doing more than I already was.
But I sure wanted to!
I researched a ton of ideas, strategies, and tips, chatted with other entrepreneurs, and listened to hours of audiobooks.
I wanted to grow my business.
And I bet you do too. That’s the kind of person you are – you see greater things for yourself and your business.
We spend so much time collecting information, promising ourselves we’re going to do them someday.
But we get distracted by other things and those ideas never take off. The plans remain in our heads. And parts of our business stay challenging, frustrating, and stressful.
After reading Donald Miller’s “Business Made Simple”, I finally had the inspiration I needed to start taking more action.
Join Stefani Thatcher and I as we break down one of my first tasks from Miller’s book, writing a mission statement for each of my websites.
You’ll notice how we tackle the task mindfully, with refreshing new ways of looking at it.
Here are five realizations that will help you finally implement your own ideas:
- How to get unstuck and start moving: I love the idea of having a story for the work I do, the passion I have for it, and my goals, but I didn’t have an authentic mission statement. Then, I found that the more I talked about it, the clearer my vision became.
- How to look at things now: The way you think about things now is slightly different after reading this book. Because now you are looking at it through a different lens, the Donald Miller lens, rather than the way you might have done it a month ago.
- How to keep on going: We all have to accept that there are days that aren’t gonna be as productive as you wish them to be, but if you’re striving and setting up things right, you’d be surprised!
- How to express your goals to others: Every single one of Donald Miller’s character lessons was a very deliberate strategy that I had implemented as an entrepreneur, and I was so excited because I finally had language around it.
- How to give your audience what they want: I was always looking for what they could give me instead of what I could give them to further their mission and their objectives.
When I told Stefani and Austin, my accountability partners, that we were going to put the Business Made Simple ideas into action right away, I meant it.
And you can do the same.
You’ve taken your business this far – now, it’s time to put up those sails and see how far you can really go!
